Angiography Give Off High Doses of Radiation Print E-mail

When a person is suspected of having arterial blockages, suffers angina attacks or has other symptoms of heart disease, a medical doctor may perform an angiography. Angiography is a process of viewing the arteries of the heart after a contrasting medium (such as a liquid dye containing iodine) has been injected. As the contrasting material passes through the heart’s arteries, it shows up on x-rays. A continuous series of X-rays is taken to allow the physician to view the condition of the arteries in detail.

In the course of an angiographic procedure, the minimum dosage of radiation received by the patient ranges between 460 - 1,580 mrem*. The minimum radiation dosage from a chest x-ray is only 2 mrem.

As stated by Dr. Gary Null in his comprehensive report on the state of medicine in the U.S., Death by Medicine, “It is well known that ionizing radiation used in X-ray procedures causes gene mutation.”

Dr. Null also provided information on the dangers of diagnostic radiation as compiled by Dr. John Gofman. Dr. Gofman has been studying the effects of radiation on human health for 45 years. He has a PhD in nuclear and physical chemistry and is a medical doctor. In a series of well-documented books, Dr. Gofman provides strong evidence that medical technology (X-rays, CT scans, mammography and more) are a contributing factor to 75% of new cancers. He comments that it is not X-rays alone that causes the damage but a combination of health risk factors including poor diet, smoking, abortions, and the use of birth control pills. Dr. Gofman predicts that 100 million premature deaths over the next decade will be the result of ionizing radiation.

*Mrem: Millirem – A measurement of radiation effect received by the body.
