Ritalin Cause Similar High as Cocaine |

|
A study reported in June 1995 issue of the Arch General Psychiatry, Volume 52, stated:
“Cocaine, which is one of the most reinforcing and addictive of the abused drugs has pharacologial actions that are very similar to those of methylphenidate hydrochloride (Ritalin), which is the most commonly prescribed psychlotopic medication for children in the United States.”
This report goes on to say that due to similarities between the two drugs, concern over abuse of methylphenidate hydrochloride has been raised to the point where it is classified as a “Schedule 2 Drug” of the Controlled Substance Act. Also listed as a Schedule 2 Drug is cocaine, methadone, amphetamines, etc.
Though it does not appear that Ritalin is as addictive as cocaine, the report states that no studies have yet been done on the two under the conditions of free drug availability.”
