In normal weight people, leptin, a fat-burning hormone produced by fat cells, signals the body to burn fat to maintain a normal weight. In overweight people, however, excess fat produces excess leptin and leads to a state of leptin resistance which prevents an overweight person from burning fat and losing weight.
Leptin resistance occurs when toxins, found in our air, food, and water, enter our body and interfere with leptin receptors in the brain. As a result, the brain stops sending fat burning signals and weight gain occurs.
Diets that do not cleanse the body of toxins are likely to fail in the long run because toxins will continue to inhibit leptin from doing its fat burning job.
Dr. Cherniawski's comment: Imagine a large circle. This circle represents an overweight person with excess fat. Imagine this circle is filled with black dots. These black dots represent the toxins that are stored in the fat due to the pollution we breathe and the chemicals in the food and water we consume.
With diet and exercise, most people lose weight. This leads to a smaller circle with a higher concentration of black dots. This is NOT sustainable by the body. In this state the body will do whatever it can to regain the fat and re-surround the toxins, leading to weight gain, yo-yo dieting, and frustration.
Cleansing works by removing toxins from fat cells. When the black dots are removed from the circle, there is no need for the body to hold on to excess fat, therefore, it is flushed from the body and you lose weight. Now, there is a smaller circle with a low concentration of black dots. This IS sustainable by the body.
Think of it like going to the dentist. Depending on the severity of your health or weight problem, a cleanse program may require several weeks or months of dedication to attain your health and weight loss goals. Like having a tooth problem, you may have to make several trips to the dentist to correct it. Once the tooth problem is corrected, you still need to go to the dentist at least twice a year, right? Similarly, you should do a thorough cleanse at least twice a year. I offer a 9-, 14-, or 30-day option. Even when you are not doing a full program, you should still cleanse a little bit everyday, like brushing your teeth. For this, I most often recommend drinking one of our cleanse shakes for breakfast.
