100 years ago, our meat, egg, and dairy products came from local family farms. Today, the majority of our animal products come from industrialized factory farms. While mass production, preservation techniques, and mass transport has made it possible to purchase animal products anywhere at any time, big farming, arguably, has sacrificed quality and safety for profit.
While packaging can be mis-leading and only tell a half truth about the quality of a product, the following list are words you should look for when purchasing your meat, eggs, and dairy:
- natural
- no antibiotic use
- no feedlots
- organic
- pasture raised
- 100% vegetarian feed
- cage free
- free-range
- grass-fed
